Annual Awards

Each year, the RRSH Committee host an awards ceremony for the students to present memorial shield awards.

The concept of the memorial shields as awards to the students was brought forward in 2016, to acknowledge the dedication and ongoing commitment of founding Members Alf Golder and Ann Gibbes, following their resignations from the Committee, due to ill health.

Sadly, neither of them had the opportunity to present the shields, as they both passed away that same year.

Mr Golder and Mrs Gibbes were the driving force in forming the Roma Rural Student Hostel Committee, securing suitable land from the council, establishing the lease agreement, and seeking funding for and overseeing the erection of the residences.  They had remained active members of the committee for over 25 years and constantly strived to improve and upgrade the facility.

The awards also serve as a reminder to the students that anything can be achieved if you set your mind to it, to respect the foresight and dedication of the previous and present committees, as without them the residence would not be available.

The awards encourage the students to strive to do their best in all facets of their lives, and live our motto of “Empowering students to achieve success.”
